演題募集期間
The 33rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Breast Cancer Society I am pleased to announce that the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Breast Cancer Society will be held over three days from Thursday, July 10, to Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Keio Plaza Hotel and Kogakuin University Shinjuku Campus. It is a great honor to organize this meeting, and I am keenly aware of the weight of this responsibility. The theme of this Annual Meeting is “Bridging Across the Pacific: Differences Between Asia and the West.” Due to our distinct genetic and environmental backgrounds, Asians and Westerners vary in physique and constitution, leading to different approaches to breast cancer management. Therefore, while the evidence from Western countries is extremely valuable, it may not always be directly applicable in Japan without proper modification. In preparation for this Annual Meeting, I am researching current practices in Japan and abroad in fields such as surgery, internal medicine, diagnostic and therapeutic radiology, pathology, plastic surgery, palliative care, and medical information. These findings are intended to serve as a basis for discussions focusing on the differences between Japan and other countries. As a surgical oncologist who began my career as a gastrointestinal surgeon, I still believe that surgery remains the most important form of treatment. However, rapid advancements in drug therapy and imaging modalities have made non-surgical treatments more viable. Thus, with the role of surgery in breast cancer treatment evolving, its significance and integration with other treatment frameworks may need to be reconsidered. By comparing the current state of medical care in Japan and abroad, I hope we can explore new approaches to breast cancer treatment. We are grateful to Kogakuin University Shinjuku Campus, which has a medical engineering collaboration agreement with Tokyo Medical University, for allowing us to use their facilities as one of our venues. It is conveniently located next to the main venue, the Keio Plaza Hotel, where attendees can move between the two locations via covered moving walkways, staying dry even in the rain. I deeply appreciate the hospitality extended by Kogakuin University, and hope this opportunity will further strengthen our collaboration in the future. By considering the “Differences Between Asia and the West”, we aim to make this Annual Meeting beneficial for breast cancer patients in Japan and around the world. All members of our department sincerely look forward to your participation. Thank you very much for your support.
