ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress 2025

The ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress 2025 will take place from 2 to 5 July in Barcelona, Spain, as well as online, through a dedicated virtual platform.

This important event will bring together leading experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals dedicated to the advancement of gastrointestinal cancers treatment and care.

Through groundbreaking presentations, multidisciplinary tumour boards, controversy sessions, and more, attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the latest research findings, innovative therapeutic strategies, and emerging technologies that are shaping the future of GI cancers treatment.

The programme will cover a wide spectrum of topics, including molecular prevention, diagnosis, precision therapy, and patient-centered care approaches in the treatment of GI malignancies.

Networking opportunities will abound, fostering connections among peers and facilitating the exchange of ideas and best practices.

ESMO GI 2024 will take place as an onsite event in Munich, Germany, from 26 to 29 June 2024, as well as online, through a dedicated virtual platform. 

Brought to you by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the congress will be the place to present impactful new data in GI oncology. The scientific sessions will be complemented with high quality educational sessions and excellent networking opportunities.

In recent years we have seen remarkable progress in the treatment options available for patients with GI cancers and ESMO is committed to ensuring that there is a clear roadmap to help facilitate the implementation of new practice changing discoveries in the clinic for the benefit of all patients with GI cancers and whose wellbeing is our primary concern.

The ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress will provide global visibility for original clinical and translational research.

Abstract submission categories

• Colon cancer
• Rectal cancer
• Upper digestive – Biliary, ampullary and pancreatic cancer
• Upper digestive – Esophageal and gastric cancers
• Hepatocellular and non-biliary liver cancer
• Rare GI cancers (GEP-NETs, endocrine pancreatic, duodenal cancer, anal cancer, etc)
• Miscellaneous

Late-breaking abstracts

Late-breaking abstracts may be submitted for high quality, new research findings from randomised phase II or phase III trials with implications for clinical practice or understanding of disease processes.

The final late-breaking abstract deadline of 6 June 2024 is under no circumstances to be considered as an extension of the general submission deadline.

Trial in progress abstracts (TiP)

Trial in Progress (TiP) abstracts in all phases of clinical research (phases I to III) may be submitted to the ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress 2024.

It is expected that abstracts submitted as Trial in Progress are ongoing trials that have not reached any protocol-specified endpoints for analysis.

Outcome notifications

Outcome notifications are expected to be made available to first authors and submitters by end-April.
Outcome notifications of accepted full LBAs are expected to be made available to first authors and submitters by 10 June 2024.

Information for presenters

Detailed instructions for the preparation of slide presentations and/or posters will be made available by end-April in the section “Information for Presenters”.

Presentation and publication of accepted abstracts

The ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers 2024 Scientific Committee will select abstracts for presentation during the Congress based on the following possibilities:

• Proffered Paper – Oral presentations by authors presenting original data of superior quality, followed by expert discussion and perspectives.
• Mini Oral – Short oral presentations by authors presenting data of good quality, followed by expert discussion and perspectives.
• Poster – Display session for review, discussion and questions. The presenting authors must be available onsite for Q&A to represent their work.

All accepted abstracts will be published online only in the ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers 2024 Abstract Book, a supplement to the official ESMO journal, Annals of Oncology.

ESMO Merit Travel Grants

A restricted number of Merit Travel Grants to the ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress 2024 are available, upon application, to first author (= presenter) who submit abstracts considered to be deserving of recognition. Candidates must be ESMO Members under the age of 40. Selection will be made by the ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers 2024 Scientific Committee on a competitive basis from among the accepted abstracts.

Registration fees and deadlines

Individual registration will remain open for the duration of the congress. The ESMO Congress Secretariat must receive one completed registration per participant and the corresponding payment in EUR by the given deadlines.

ESMO membership must be active seven (7) days prior to the registration deadline for the reduced member registration fee to be applied. Please visit the membership pages on esmo.org to check eligibility criteria, benefits, and to complete the membership application.

* Applicable to ESMO Members from developing countries only. At the time of application, developing countries are defined by ESMO according to the World Bank classification of low, lower-middle and upper-middle countries based on the Gross National Income (GNI) per capita. Download the PDF outlining which countries are eligible for the discounted registration fees.

** ESMO Members must be under 40 and in training to qualify for this fee.

The official sessions and Industry Satellite Symposia will be available on-demand on the Congress Virtual Platform until 7 July 2025 at 16:00 CEST, for all registered participants. 
Once the Congress Virtual Platform is closed, the on-demand content will be transferred to OncologyPRO.
